Valuing the identity of students in Youth and Adult Education (EJA) is necessary in view of its contribution to reducing school dropout in this type of education. This research aimed to analyze the challenges that EJA is currently facing, highlighting the importance of valuing the student identity as a means to overcome such problems. The methodology adopted to achieve the proposed objective was descriptive bibliographic research. For this, scientific publications present in Google Academic databases, CAPES and Scielo journals were used, between the years 2012 and 2020. The research made it possible to understand that it is possible to reduce the high rates of school dropout in EJA, as long as there is a collective effort between government, school and teachers, aiming at the development of alternatives that make the school environment more attractive for those people who went back to school after a long period away from school. These efforts revolve around developing curricula and teaching methodologies that value each student's identity. It is possible to conclude that the school and all the professionals who work in it must promote means so that students feel motivated and can continue their studies.
