Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the oral tradition, in a popular basis, taking into account the literary work for children and teens written by the contemporaneous author Ronaldo Correia de Brito, using as reference the books “Arlequim” (2006), “Bandeira de São João” (1996) and “O Baile do Menino Deus” (1995), which belong to the trilogy named “As Festas Brasileiras” (a prose adaptation published by Bagaço), besides the novelette “O Pavão Misterioso” (Cosac Naify, 2004). All of them were produced in partnership with Assis Lima (“Arlequim” has been also done in partnership with the musician Antonio Madureira). In order to have the study under a theoretical basis, there will be an approach on the assimilation process of the popular culture, based on oral transmission, via the literature for children in Brazil. Moreover, it was necessary to set Brito’s work in the overview of the literature published for children and teens. This article also mentions different tendencies followed by this kind of literature throughout the past years.
