Abstract

This article is the result of a research carried out by the Research Group of the Faculdade Frassinetti do
Recife – FAFIRE, with the purpose of understanding how indigenous peoples are portrayed in Brazilian Literature.
The bibliographic research was carried out during the years 2020 and 2021, based mainly on Bosi (2017), Almeida
(2019), Luciano (2006) and Silva (2020), who allowed a critical analysis of Brazilian Literature and the indigenous
cultures of the country. The results pointed to a stereotyped representation of indigenous peoples, which always
places them as savage or passive, ignoring the importance of native people in the construction of the country and
in the struggles against the expropriation of colonizers. We hope, therefore, that this study is a contribution to the
ethnic-racial discussion in the country through Brazilian Literature, enabling a critical and social perspective of
the works produced over the centuries, in order to contribute to a less prejudiced society.
